Launching the McRobotface Robotics Club: Inspiring the Next Generation of Innovators

For two age groups : kids age 4-7 years and age 7-13 years.

We are excited to announce the launch of the McRobotface Robotics Club at Little Plaza! This innovative initiative is designed to inspire the next generation of roboticists and provide children with hands-on STEM education. Led by Dr. Derek Chun, a dedicated parent and PhD holder in Robotics and Autonomous Systems from the Edinburgh Centre for Robotics, our club aims to make robotics and coding accessible, engaging, and fun for kids in our local community.

Why Robotics?

Robotics is not just about building machines; it's about fostering creativity, problem-solving skills, and teamwork. Over the past decade, robotics has advanced significantly, becoming an integral part of our daily lives. From automated home appliances to sophisticated search and rescue operations, the impact of robotics is undeniable. Introducing children to robotics at a young age can unlock their potential and set them on a path to becoming innovators and leaders in this dynamic field.

Why Now?

According to recent studies, a growing number of children are showing interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) subjects, with robotics and AI being particularly popular. This trend is evident in the increasing participation in robotics competitions and the popularity of coding classes among young learners. By leveraging this interest, we can create an environment that not only educates but also excites and motivates children to pursue careers in STEM.

Our Approach

The McRobotface Robotics Club is designed based on Piaget's model of cognitive development and Sperry's model of left-right brain functions. By focusing on the concrete operational stage (ages 4 to 13), we aim to nurture curiosity and enhance sequential processing development. Our hands-on approach, using Vex 123 and Go kits, allows children to engage with robotics and coding from an early age, making learning both fun and impactful.

Call for Support

To make this vision a reality, we are seeking support from the community. Our crowdfunding campaign aims to raise £6,000 to cover the costs of robotics hardware, training, promotion, and the hiring of subject matter experts. Your contributions will help remove financial barriers and ensure that children in our community have access to high-quality STEM education. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in achieving our goal.

Outcomes and Future Plans

The McRobotface Robotics Club will offer sessions at a comparable kids' activity price, ensuring accessibility for all. We plan to host robotics competitions, providing a platform for children to showcase their skills and creativity. Our ultimate goal is to expand the club to include more advanced robotics for older age groups, fostering a lifelong interest in STEM.

Join Us

We invite you to be a part of this exciting journey. Whether through donations, volunteering, or spreading the word, your involvement can help us inspire the next generation of roboticists. Together, we can create a lasting impact and ensure that our children are prepared for a future where robotics and technology play a crucial role.

Dr. Derek Chun’s extensive experience in robotics and his dedication to inspiring young minds make the McRobotface Robotics Club a unique and valuable addition to our community. Join us at Little Plaza and be a part of this groundbreaking initiative. Let's make robotics education accessible and exciting for all children and pave the way for a brighter future.
